Club results (boys) from weekend of 7-8 March   09/03/2015

The U12A boys returned to the top of the Championship division with a comprehensive 6-0 win away to Renmore last Saturday. Goals from Conor Trehy (2), Shaun Gilligan, Sean Joyce, Ross Whelton and Alan Higgins secured the three points with one goal deserving special mention. With Craughwell leading 4-0, Renmore were awarded a penalty. United keeper Higgins saved the penalty and promptly scored with his kickout from the edge of the box. For keeping a clean sheet, saving a penalty and scoring a goal, he deserved the man of the match accolade for this week. Next up is the Connacht Shield semi-final against St Bernards this Saturday at 2pm in Coleman Park.

Also on Saturday, the U13 boys lost 4-2 to Colga in their Premiership match at Coleman Park. The strong wind proved to be the key to this game with United going two up in the first half courtesy of an own goal and an Alex Evans goal. However, Colga took over in the second half to score four unanswered goals and claim the three points.

The U15 boys qualified for the GFA Cup quarter finals with an excellent 2-1 win away to Knocknacarra. The home side went ahead midway through the first half but Craughwell pulled one back with Niall Collins heading in from a corner. In the second half, both keepers were busy but it was United keeper, Calum Kenny (pictured), who stole the show with two outstanding saves. Craughwell grabbed the winner with four minutes remaining when Gary Connolly received the ball on the edge of the box, beat his defender and coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

The U16 boys were also victorious in the GFA Cup with a hard fought 2-1 home win after extra time over Premiership side St Bernards. The away side deservedly took the early lead and remained in command for the first half. Craughwell grew into the game after the break with Jack Lally pulling the strings in midfield and when a St Bernards defender handled on his own line, Ronan Nevin scored from the resultant penalty to level the match. St Bernards were the more likely team to make the breakthrough in normal time but with United central defenders Oisin O Brien and Mark Cunningham making some great blocks and keeper Kyle Heverin tipping over a point blank shot the game finished 1-1. The extra half hour seemed to be petering out towards a penalty shootout until Craughwell striker Nevin bundled in from close range in the dying minutes to clinch the dramatic win.

The U18B boys were 3-2 winners over Bearna Na Forbacha B in their Championship league match with goals coming from Niall Beirne, Dylan Callanan and a penalty clincher from Malachai MacCormaic. Man of the match performance from Dylan Callanan along with outstanding contributions from Adam Flynn and Patrick Tansey.

In the Kevin Power U11 Cup, the Craughwell A side were 6-0 home winners over West Coast United while the Craughwell B side played well before eventually losing 6-1 away to the Salthill Devon A team.

Well done to United players Shaun Gilligan, Liam Mulveen, Kieran O Connor and Adam Stewart who were selected on the Galway development squads after the recent series of trials.
