The U18A boys made a great escape in their Connacht Shield second
round match at home to Claremorris last Sunday afternoon. Craughwell started
the match slowly and the away side played well enough to put themselves 2-0 up with
twenty minutes left to go. Cillian McDaid scored to give United a lifeline and
then Cathal Quinn, who had just come on, scored a great goal to send the match
into extra time. Both sides had chances only to be denied by the crossbar until
sustained pressure by Craughwell yielded three successive corners and Quinn
scored his second with a super header in the last minute of extra time to clinch
it.
The U14 boys (pictured) made the scenic journey to Letterfrack last Saturday to play West
Coast United and came home with three points after a workman-like 3-1 victory.
Craughwell went behind after a defensive error but fought back to force an
own goal and level it at one all. Further goals from Adam Cunney and Joseph
Jackson made it 3-1 at half time and that's the way it finished. Craughwell
remain second in the table two points behind Kinvara with a game in hand.
The U12A boys beat Oughterard 4-2 away from home with goals from Liam
Mulveen, Shaun Gilligan and Aaron Dolan giving United a 3-0 half time lead. A
much tighter second half ensued with Mulveen getting Craughwellâs fourth in
reply to two goals for the home side, the result keeping United at the top of
the Championship table at the half way stage.
The U12B boys continued their good form with a 10-2 home win over Moyne Villa B.
Prolific striker Tomas Barlow scored five goals, Conor Rooney notched his
hatrick with further goals coming from Alex Craven and Alan Higgins.
The U14 girls started their Premier League campaign with a 5-0 loss away to a strong Cregmore/Claregalway side last Saturday afternoon.
