In our only GFA fixture last weekend, the U16 girls lost 3-1 at home to Athenry on Sunday afternoon in their Premier League third round fixture. There has never been much between the sides over the last few seasons with a competitive tussle always guaranteed. Athenry took the lead early in the first half but Laura Cunningham soon equalised for United with a long range strike.

The second half saw few chances for either side but for an Aoife Raftery header hitting the post. Craughwell continued to press forward in numbers looking for the lead goal but found themselves punished twice on the break with two well taken goals by the away side’s impressive striker.

Craughwell have lost by a single goal in their last three matches, but their hard work will surely turn thing around in the near future.
