U11 Boys 2013/2014 season - Manager's report   21/06/2014

Squad - Conor Trehy, Shaun Gilligan, Gavin Kelly, Sean Joyce, Oisin Davis, Jack Regan, Sam Finnerty, Sean Cahill, David Ruane, Alex Craven, Gearoid Meehan, Liam Mulveen, Sam Moduka, Thomas Pearse, Jack Farrell, Emmet Keane, Liam Diviney, Aaron Dolan, Ross Whelton, Conor Hynes, Robert Moylen,  Niall Kennedy, Luke Clarke, Oisin Bloomer, Darren Shaughnessy, Lewis Ryan, Tiernan Killeen, Mikey Murrey, Ultan Jennings, Eoin Staunton, Kieran Hanrahan, Nathan McCormack, Cathal Delahunty, Alan Higgins, Shane Morgan, James Furey, Thomas Barlow, Killian Gallagher  â€“ total squad members 38 (2012/13 : 30) (2011/12 : 23).

Team stats - Played – 58 games (last season 39) games in all competitions including challenge matches. Won – 42, Drawn – 7, Lost – 9. Surely at this stage they must be tired of soccer.

Win average is 72% (last season 51%).  Better than ManchesterCity’s win average after winning the Premiership this year. All in it has been a very busy and successful season, culminating with the recent cup finals day in Terryland. Well done to all the players who won the Shield competition and hard luck to the players who were narrowly defeated by Salthill Devon in the semi final of the Cup competition. We all saw how much it means to them and it bodes well for the future of our Club.  It stands to all the players and coaching staff that our Club were the only “non Galway city club” to have both squads get to the semi finals in Terryland on Sunday 15 June 2014. Mervue Utd and Salthill Devon were the only other two clubs to do this.

Goals scored – 267 in total, averaging 4.6 a game (last season  3 goals per game). 22 clean sheets were kept – well done to the defenders (too many to name) and goalkeepers, Conor Trehy, Alan Higgins to name a few who stood between the posts.

Goal scorers

30 players got on the scoring sheet this season. Too many to individually list but special mention to Sean Joyce (24 goals), Sam Finnerty (22 goals), Emmet Keane (21 goals), Lewis Ryan (20 goals), Sam Moduka (20 goals) and Tiernan Killeen (19 goals).

Goals of the season

Conor Hynes and Kieran (Hansie) Hanrahan. At the quarter final stage against Athenry, the game was locked at 3-3 with a semi final appearance in Terryland hanging in the balance. It was all to play for when Conor Hynes ran from midfield with the ball, got to the edge of the box and calmly struck the ball into the top left corner giving the keeper no chance. 4-3 to Craughwell.  At the final in Terryland against Salthill Devon, having beaten Mervue in the semi, the game was even until Hansie hit the net from a tight angle on the right hand touch line. A majestic strike.  Hansie swears he meant it, but only Hansie knows if it was a shot or a cross. Nevertheless it fired up the team and they won out comfortably from then on to win the competition.

The Clubs played  - Maree/Oranmore,  Kinvara, Mervue, Salthill Devon, Galway Hibs, Renmore, Ramblers, Knocknacarra, Colga, Athenry, Oughterard, Bearna, OLBC, Gort and Tuam.

And the question on everyone’s mind – black v blue squad?

Bragging rights to the Blue squad.

Next Season

Next season will be our squads first season playing competitive football.  We will be asked to submit two squads and if we have the numbers, a third squad into GFA affiliated competitions which will be a 9 a side league format, we think at this stage. We don’t know yet what divisions the GFA will select for us. However, we have squad of players that can compete in any GFA division. The Club will be looking for volunteers to help out at training and help the existing coaches during games. We can only have 3 teams if more parents help us out. If not, we will be restricted to just 2.    It is not a huge commitment but it is rewarding. It is extremely important that despite what squad and division a player is selected to play in, he gets the support and encouragement from parents at all times.  We know from the great year that we just had, all the guys want to do is play ball.

Well done to all the lads and many thanks to the parents for your support. I want to express kind thanks to the coaching staff and parents who have helped us along the way.

Registration for next season will be early this year (probably August) as we need the funds to pay for our new pitch.

Thank you

Aubrey Mulveen, Kevin Keane, Alan Whelton & Francis Pearse.
