Craughwell United Notes 8-9 October   11/10/2022

Craughwell United suffered a 3-2 extra-time defeat away to Cloonfad in the the Connacht Junior Cup on Sunday last. Kevin Molloy struck on the thirty minute mark set up by Eoin Fahy. Ten minutes later Ross Whelton teed up Cian Garman leaving United two goals to the good at half time. Out-battled in second half in difficult conditions Cloonfad brought the game to extra time and converted a penalty to seal a great comeback and a place in the next round.

Also on Sunday afternoon Jessica McGlynn scored twice and Grace Keaveney once to give the Craughwell United U17 Girls a 3-1 win over a competitive Colemanstown side at Coleman park. A great all-round performance in terrible conditions.

Earlier, on Sunday morning Craughwell's U13A side had a 4-1 win over Mervue B in bad weather at Coleman Park. The hard-working Charlie Duggan opened the scoring. United were unlucky to concede an equaliser before the break. In the second half with the help of a stiff breeze Charlie Nugent scored direct from a corner. James O'Dwyer and Zach Keane added to the tally to make it a comfortable win. Meanwhile, the U13B side were beaten away to Kinvara in a very competitive fixture.

On Friday night four busloads of Craughwell United Academy players and coaches travelled to Eamonn Deacy Park to watch Galway United play Athlone Town. Nine academy and underage sides of both boys and girls made the trip in what was an incredible feat of organisation by the club - they were able to cheer on U9 player Niall Conlon who was mascot on the night.
