The U18 boys travelled to Strandhill in Sligo last Sunday to take on Strand Celtic in their Connacht Shield semi final encounter. The home side were in command in the early stages and forced a series of corners. They used their physical advantage well to score from two of those corners and added a third to establish a three goal lead by the second quarter. United coaches Mark Faherty and Stan Irwin made a few tactical changes which gave more balance to the Craughwell side and nearing the half time break, Liam Mulveen scored from a powerful free kick to give United hope of a comeback. Both sides fought hard after the break to gain the upper hand but Craughwell couldn't find the second goal which would have put pressure on the home side. In the end, Strand Celtic held on for a deserved win but great credit to the Craughwell lads for trying hard right until the final whistle. Fabulous achievement to reach a Connacht semi final.
The junior men's side were 5-0 winners over ten man MacDara on Sunday morning at Coleman Park. Alan Callanan and Kevin Molloy put Craughwell two up in the first half. Darragh O Connor added Craughwell's third and two more from Molloy completed his hatrick to give United their third league win in a row.
On Saturday, the U12B boys kept their winning run going after a 2-0 home win over Tuam Celtic C with the goals coming from Darragh O Donnell and Cathal Desbonnet while the U12A boys were out of luck in a 4-1 away defeat to Knocknacarra B. The U12B boys followed up Saturday's win with a 3-0 home win over league leaders Kinvara United B on Monday evening at Coleman Park. Zach Keane, Darragh O Donnell and Sean Niland scored for Craughwell in a very competitive and entertaining match and the win brings Craughwell level with Kinvara at the top of Division 5.
