Club results up to weekend of 19-20 January   21/01/2019

Last weekend was a busy one with nine club teams playing in various competitions. The junior mens side made it six league wins in a row with a hard fought 2-1 win away to St Bernard’s B on Saturday afternoon. Craughwell went ahead  inside ten minutes when Jack Lally latched on to a through ball from fellow midfielder Patrick Phillips to finish well. The home side soon came more into the game and scored the equaliser before half time. United went ahead shortly after the break when a Bernard’s defender deflected a Mark Cunningham free kick past his own keeper. Both sides had opportunities to score in a frantic final quarter but great defending from Oisin O Brien and Derek Burke meant Craughwell held on for the three points. The U14 boys also came through a tough battle before eventually overcoming Cois Fharraige 3-2 in Carraroe. The Crowe twins were on the mark scoring all three goals between them and special mention also to Jamie Lyons who was deputising in goals and put in a man of the match  performance. The U14B boys lost 6-0 at home to St Bernards while the U12A boys were defeated 4-2 at home to Mervue United C in their Divisional Cup match. The U12B boys had better luck with a 2-0 away to Maree/Oranmore F in the Division 3&4 Cup with Ewan Walsh scoring both United goals while the U12C boys were 6-1 winners over Cregmore/Claregalway FC C in the same competition. Gavin Clarke netted twice along with further goals from Paul Barry, Jack Donohue, Matthew Cloonan and Matthew Morgan.

On Sunday the U16 boys were 4-1 winners away to West Coast United with Conor Hynes, Ross Whelton and Lewis Ryan (2, pictured) on the scoresheet while the U14 girls lost 5-0 away to Kinvara United. The U12A girls sit on top of the Championship League table after a 6-0 home win over Corrib Celtic. Ella Farrelly bagged a hatrick with Alannah Farrell and twins Keely and Amelie Grogan with one a piece. CUFC are delighted that Mollie Gilligan from the U12A squad has been recently selected on the Galway (Gaynor Cup) U-13 squad. All within the club are very proud of her achievement and wish her every success with the team over the coming months.
