Club results up to weekend of 15-17 June   19/06/2018

In our last club game this season, the U14 girls went down 3-0 to Corrib Celtic in their Shield League Final played at Drom on Friday night.

Straight from the kick-off, the Craughwell midfield got stuck in with Jade Whelton, Kacey Coleman, Megan Gilligan and Alex Slamas winning the 50-50 tackles and then moving the ball forward where Rebecca Cloonan and Aoibhe Stephens held the ball up and combined nicely throughout the game. Craughwell had the wind in the first half, but were very unlucky not to be ahead at half time. Celtic had the wind in the second half, but Craughwell still held firm at midfield with Aisling Whyte working back to help out when needed. When Celtic did get through the United midifeld they met a strong defence that allowed little or no ball through. The defensive unit of Helen Callaghan, Ava Collins, Chloe Allen and Aleisha Callanan were impeccable, keeping calm heads and timing their tackles perfectly while keeping Corrib to the minimum of chances. Sadhbh Irwin in goals looked confident throughout, coming out to clean up any ball that got through.

Corrib Celtic were trying long range efforts and went in front with one shot hitting the back of the net midway through the second half. Craughwell kept working hard and pushed forward trying to get the equaliser, but when Corrib Celtic scored two very late goals, it left a score-line that did not do justice to the Craughwell girls' effort and how well they played. Everyone who watched the game can be proud of the way the Craughwell girls played and conducted themselves. Congrats to Corrib Celtic and thanks to all who supported our U14 girls throughout the season.
