Club results from weekend of 13/14 January   15/01/2018

Our junior men’s team were defeated 1-0 away to Achill Rovers in the third round of the Connacht Cup on Sunday. Playing with the strong wind and driving rain for the opening half, Craughwell controlled the game but near misses from Adam Lawlor-Smalle and Liam Clarke meant that the game was scoreless at the interval. Achill took the lead on the hour mark with a long range crisp strike that gave United keeper Kyle Heverin no chance. After going behind, Craughwell started playing their best football with Jack Lally and Eric Callanan putting in great work in their central midfield positions. The pressure eventually yielded a penalty for Craughwell on eighty minutes but Alan Tormey dragged it wide in difficult conditions. Striker Alan Callanan had the ball in the Rovers net minutes later, but was called back for offside and despite more pressure, the home side held on for the win. Huge effort from the Craughwell lads with left back Connor Dolan having a blinder but Gavin O’Toole on the right side of midfield was Craughwell’s outstanding player on the day. The junior squad would like to thank Achill Rovers for their hospitality before and after the match.

The U13A boys were 2-1 winners away to Colga B with Jamie Lyons (pictured) scoring from two headers for United while the U13B boys drew 4-4 away to Kinvara United B in an exciting and entertaining match. Liam Plower, Andrew Power, Shane Gorman and Lucas Keane all scored for Craughwell. Also played on Saturday, the U15 boys were defeated 3-2 away to Corrib Celtic with Lewis Ryan and a Ross Whelton penalty, the United scorers.
