Club results from weekend of 16-17 September   20/09/2017

In last  weekend's club matches, the U12A girls started their Championship League campaign with a 4-0 home win over Maree/Oranmore FC last Sunday morning. Alison Morrissey marked her first game of the season with a fabulous hat trick, while Chloe Hallinan’s goal sealed the victory. In what was a very solid overall team performance, Ellie Brennan, Grace Keaveney and Tara Morgan all shone on the day. The U12B girls received a walkover in their scheduled match against Merlin Woods.

The U14A boys got their season off to a flyer with a 5-0 away win in Oughterard. Midway through the first half Darragh McCartin put Cian Irwin through to slot home the opener, followed five minutes later by Liam Mulveen scoring from just outside the box.  Then just before the break, Nigel Kelly headed home a Dara Collins corner for the third goal. Early in the second half, United keeper Aaron Gilligan saved a penalty before Craughwell broke upfield with Michael Trehy forcing a great save from the Oughterard keeper only for Dara Collins to slot home the rebound. Then in the dying minutes, Adam Stewart carried the ball the full length of the field only to be taken down just outside the box. Liam Mulveen converted the resulting free to round off the win.

The U14B boys were defeated 6-2 at home to West Coast United with goals from Shane Tuohy and Jerry Boyle, while the U18 boys lost 5-3 to Loughrea in an entertaining encounter at Coleman Park. Joe Jackson, Thomas Hynes and Shane Quirke were on target for United.

Earlier on Sunday, the junior men’s side endured a late comeback from Renmore B to lose 3-2 at Coleman Park. Ari DeSouza Neves played Alan Callanan (pictured) through to score on five minutes, and the same striker put United two up early in the second half when running on to a powerful header from midfielder Kealan Greene. Craughwell spurned chances to extend their lead but the city side were always dangerous and reduced the deficit after some sustained pressure. Craughwell keeper Kyle Heverin made several important saves throughout the match but could do nothing when Renmore scored twice in the last five minutes to snatch all three points. Midfielders Louis Grey and Eoin Fahy were outstanding for Craughwell on the day.

Elsewhere, the U12A boys drew 2-2 away to Maree/Oranmore FC in their Premier League fixture. Shane Murray put Craughwell in front with the assist from Jamie Collins down the right wing. The home side equalised but United went ahead again midway through the second half from Alan Zimmerer, before Maree/Oranmore scored the late equaliser. Towering display in defence by Cormac Regan who was ably assisted by Lucas Keane and Adam Jordan with Cormac McFadden's goalkeeping and restarts outstanding.

The U12C boys were desperately unlucky to lose out to a late winner from Cregmore/Claregalway FC C on a final score of 2-1. A much improved performance with Dylan Moran playing a tremendous match in goals and pulling off a string of saves including an excellent penalty save. Impressive performances from all the boys with Cormac Tuohy especially strong in defence.
