Club results from weekend of 22-23 April.   28/04/2017

Both our Junior and U18 sides concluded their league campaigns last weekend with away victories over Cregmore/Claregalway FC. On Saturday, the juniors were 2-1 winners thanks to first half goals from Chris Phillips and a penalty from striker Mike Madden after Liam Sheehan was taken down by the Cregmore keeper. Best for Craughwell were captain Iain Prendergast who assisted for the opener and put in a huge shift while Gavin O Toole also put in a strong first half performance.

The U18 boys were involved in a 3-2 thriller on Sunday afternoon at the same venue. Winger Jonathan Boland set up Diarmaid McCartin for the opening goal after twenty five minutes before McCartin went on to assist Cillian Dolan for Craughwell’s second goal with fifteen minutes remaining. However, United were to miss several good chances to put the game out of reach and the home side would fight back twice to level at 2-2. Then with the game deep in stoppage time, Eoin Fahy found Alan Callanan (pictured) who became the hero of the day when bundling the ball over the line the snatch the win.

The U16 boys were defeated 5-1 away to Mervue United B with Ian McGlynn on target for Craughwell. The U18 girls played an entertaining and very competitive match away to Corrib Celtic but nothing could separate the sides in a nil all draw. Ailvhe Martyn, Veronica Creaven and Laura Cunningham all went close to scoring while Craughwell keeper Siobhan Creaven make some outstanding saves to keep the home side scoreless.

Elsewhere, the U13 boys were 3-2 winners away to old rivals Kiltullagh. Kieran O Connor headed the first goal after some great work down the wing from Michael Trehy leaving the match level at half time. Kiltullagh went in front early in the second half before two late strikes from Liam Mulveen and Niall Dillon swung the match in United’s favour.

Finally, best of luck to coach Karl Zimmerer and his U12C boys who take on Mervue United C at 7.30pm in Eamonn Deacy Park next Wednesday 3 May in their playoff match to determine the U12 Division 3 Championship. Both teams went through the ten game campaign with eight wins and two draws, so it should make for a great contest.
