Club results from weekend of 18-19 February   20/02/2017

The Craughwell United junior side were 2-1 winners over Dynamo Blues B last Saturday afternoon in Tuam. Craughwell needed a win to keep their slim promotion hopes alive and deservedly went in front from an Alan Tormey penalty after striker Mike Madden was upended in the box. Madden then almost doubled the lead before halftime after hitting the woodwork from a fine Liam Sheehan cross. United continued to dominate in the second half and did score again when front man Ruairi McArdle (pictured) headed in from another pinpoint Sheehan cross. The home side pulled a goal back from the penalty spot but Craughwell were always in command thanks to the strong midfield unit of Masterson, Prendergast, Greene, O’Toole and Sheehan; particularly with Gavin O’Toole in outstanding form throughout. Also on Saturday, the U14 boys lost 3-1 away to Maree/Oranmore in the Premier League while the U13B boys were held 1-1 at home to Oughterard B with Shane Tuohy on target for United.

On Sunday, the U13A boys lost by the only goal at home to Cregmore/Claregalway FC in the  U13 GFA Premier Cup. Craughwell had several chances, notably through Kieran O Connor and Liam Mulveen, but they found the visiting keeper a match for everything they threw at him. Later at Coleman Park, the U16 girls also lost by the only goal of the match to Corrib Rangers while the U12B girls received a walkover from Merlin Woods in their scheduled Division 1 league match.
