Club results from weekend of 28-29 January   02/02/2017

The Craughwell United junior side were 4-1 winners over St Bernards B last Saturday at Coleman Park. Gavin O Toole opened the scoring on ten minutes with a crisp right footed finish to the far left corner. That was followed followed quickly by a Mike Madden (pictured) tap in from Mike Naughton’s assist and then before the break, the two strikers combined again when Naughton was upended in the box and Madden scored from the spot kick to give United a three goal cushion at the break. The second half saw fewer chances for either side but Madden’s persistence was rewarded when he completed his hatrick with a well taken finish from outside the box. St Bernards were awarded a late penalty and even though Craughwell keeper Jack Doran saved the initial shot well, he could do nothing the stop Bernards scoring from the rebound. Craughwell now look forward in the coming weeks to away games against fellow promotion hopefuls Claregalway and Dynamo Blues B. Earlier on Saturday, the U14 boys lost 4-1 to Colga in the Premier League while the U16 boys lost 2-0 away to city side Galway Hibs. The U12B boys lost 5-0 away to Mervue United B while the U12A boys were 9-3 winners over Corrib Rangers in Westside. Fiachra Bond, Alex Duggan, Daire Crowe and Roan Budge all scored two each with Jamie Lyons completing the scoring.

On Sunday, the U14 girls were defeated at home to Colga in the Galway U14 Cup with Emily Miskella and Laoise Bond on target for United while in Eamon Deacy Park, Craughwell players Kate Creaven, Laura Cunningham, Sarah Phillips and Aoife Raftery were on the Galway squad that fought out a thrilling 3-3 draw against Mayo in the U18 Connacht Inter-League competition. Raftery and Cunningham were introduced in the second half at left back and left wing respectively and saw plenty of action.
