Club results from weekend of 26-27 November   02/12/2016

The U13 boys went out at the fourth round stage of the SFAI Cup last Saturday after a 2-1 home defeat to Westport United. Niall Dillon put Craughwell ahead with a lovely shot from the edge of the box but the Mayo side maintained the higher tempo in the second half to score two goals, despite the great efforts of Craughwell keeper Aaron Gilligan, who shone all afternoon. Elsewhere, the U12A boys lost 1-0 away to Maree/Oranmore B while the U12B boys lost 5-0 away to Athenry C. However, the U12C boys continued their fine form with a 3-0 win away to Ramblers, leaving them one point off the Division 3 league leaders. Also on Saturday, the junior men’s side lost 3-0 away to Athenry B.

On Sunday, the U14 boys lost 4-1 at home to Mervue United in their Premier League match with Tomas barlow scoring for the home side, while the U16 girls lost 3-2 away to Oughterard. In a battling display, the Craughwell girls showed skill and determination with the midfield being strongly managed by Ruth Tansey and Tara Farrell.  Early goals from Ailbhe Miskella (following superb work from Sarah Woods) and a great individual effort by Mia Joyce gave Craughwell a two goal advantage. However, an injury to Craughwell player of the match Siobhan Craven created a delay, thus allowing Oughterard to gather themselves. The United defence of Roisin Phillips, Emer Mulveen, Amber Whelton and Beth Sullivan were working hard but two goals conceded in quick succession left the match all square at half time. Second half substitutes Molly Sullivan, Veronica Craven and Emily Miskella worked feverishly to create chances until Shona O’Kelly beat several defenders and then the goalkeeper but just could not get the ball into the net. Ultimately, Oughterard scored a late winner which was hard on the Craughwell girls whose collective performance deserved more. Also on Sunday, the U12 girls Navy squad lost 5-0 to Mervue United while the U12 girls Blue squad suffered their first league defeat to a well drilled Colga team. Three Colga goals in the first twenty minutes meant that Craughwell were always chasing the game and despite best efforts they found it difficult to break down a tough Colga defence. The Craughwell girls battled well throughout, and had some solid performances from Chloe Hallinan, Grace Cunningham and Ashling Whyte who got Craughwell's only goal. Their next match is away to Merlin Woods in mid February
