Club results from weekend of 1-2 October   03/10/2016

The U13 boys were the standout team from last weekend’s club results when they defeated Melview FC 5-3 in Longford on Saturday afternoon. Nigel Kelly, Kieran O Connor and Darragh McCartin scored in the first half to leave the sides level 3-3 at the break. O Connor scored two more second half goals to complete his hatrick while Odhran Keane, Adam Stewart and Liam Mulveen also featured prominently for United. They will now play Moyne Villa in the SFAI Cup third round over the coming weeks.

Also on Saturday, the U12A boys were 5-0 winners over Cregmore/Claregalway FC B with the goals coming from Daniel Galvin, Jamie Lyons, Senan Keane and two from Daire Crowe. The U12B boys lost 3-1 away to Colga B with Andrew Power scoring for Craughwell.

On Sunday, the U18 boys drew 1-1 at home to Athenry in a typically competitive local derby. Athenry opened the scoring in the second half after capitalising on some hesitancy in the Craughwell defence, however, the lead was shortlived when Alan Callanan (pictured) scored from the penalty spot to level the match. United had two great chances to take the lead but Diarmaid McCartin and Callanan shot over the bar from close range. Athenry then had their own gilt edged chances late on but couldn’t convert, so the match finished level and a fair result for both teams. Midfielders Eoin Fahy and Jack Doran featured well on a day when every player fought hard for Craughwell.

Also on Sunday, the U14 boys were defeated 4-0 by Maree/Oranmore FC in their Premier League encounter while the U16 boys lost 4-1 to Mervue United B, both matches played at Coleman Park.
