Club results from weekend of 24-25 September   26/09/2016

Craughwell’s U16 girls (pictured) played with credit in the Corrib Celtic Invitational Cup last weekend, getting to the final of the plate competition on Sunday. After beating Mervue United in the semi-final, they eventually lost out to Castlebar Celtic in the final. Our player of the tournament was goalkeeper Siobhan Creaven along with other notable performances from Sarah Woods, Tara Farrell, Emer Mulveen, Beth Sullivan and club debutante  Hannah O’ Mahony. Also featuring were Lisa Coleman, Shona O' Kelly, Roisin Phillips, Amber Whelton, Ruth Tansey and our U14 players Veronica Creaven and Molly Sullivan who contributed handsomely.

The U13 boys lost their opening league match 2-1 at home to Maree/Oranmore FC. The away side went 1-0 up in the first half through a penalty despite Craughwell keeper Jerry Boyle almost saving the spot kick. Maree/Oranmore doubled their lead after the break before Kieran O Connor’s deflected shot pulled one back for United. Even though Craughwell piled on the pressure in the final minutes, they couldn’t find the equaliser.

Also on Saturday afternoon, the Junior side were 7-1 winners away to Colemanstown B. Craughwell opened the scoring on seven minutes when Cathal Greaney played a lovely ball over the top to striker Mike Madden who finished to the bottom corner. Greaney was again the provider on the half hour when winger Mike Naughton flicked in his free kick for a 2-0 half time lead. Craughwell doubled that lead early in the second half with two quick goals; a second from Madden and then Greaney directly from a corner kick. The home side pulled one back from a well taken free kick before Craughwell added to their tally. Mike Madden completed his hatrick, followed by further goals from substitutes Ruairi McArdle and Jack Creaven. Indeed, Creaven was only on the pitch for less than thirty seconds, replacing Madden, before running on to a long ball and scoring with a powerful strike.
