Club results from weekend of 2-3 April.   05/04/2016

Last weekend saw six club teams in Galway FA league action, all of which were played at Coleman Park.

On Saturday morning, the U12A boys were 6-1 winners over Moyne Villa which keeps them out in front on the Championship table with only two league games remaining. Adam Stewart and Darragh McCartin both scored twice with Nigel Kelly and Dara Collins also on target. Kieran O Connor was involved in almost everything with five assists while Oisin Quirke had an outstanding game in the home defence. The U14 boys went down 4-1 to local rivals Colga with Ryan Gallagher scoring for United. The U14 girls will rue all the missed chances in losing 4-2 to Corrib Rangers with the two Craughwell goals coming from Ruth Tansey.

The Junior Men’s side got back on track in their promotion battle with a 2-1 win over Corrib Celtic B. After a scoreless first half, Craughwell were soon winning the midfield battle with Kealan Greene and Patrick Phillips disrupting any Celtic momentum. Cathal Greaney was taken down in the penalty area and picked himself up to score the opening goal. Then with an hour gone, Iain Prendergast was injured in a centre circle clash and in the following confusion, Celtic scored the equaliser. The home players were clearly unhappy with the sequence of events but when the commotion finally died down, Greene was allowed to tip off from the restart and walk the ball unchallenged into the Celtic net. A great moment of sportsmanship from Corrib Celtic. Craughwell then held on under heavy pressure to secure the three points.

On Sunday, the U18 boys were 3-2 winners over Moyne Villa in a highly entertaining game. United went behind in the first half before Vince Boyle scored twice and another from Jack Craven (pictured) left the home side with a 3-1 advantage. Villa pulled one back in the second half but Craughwell held the visitors out to record their best performance of the season to date. The U12 girls, playing their final league game, ran out 3-0 winners over Athenry B.

Craughwell United held their Easter Soccer Camp at the Craughwell school astro pitch last week with ninety five players taking part. Patrick Phillips and his fellow coaches maintained a good spirit in the camp throughout the week with the weather very favourable until Friday when strong winds and heavy rain forced a final day cancellation. Special mention of gratitude to Jody Connolly for sponsoring the Thursday refreshments.
